Angle neede top of internal door

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.42 PM

I am replacing doors in my house. Currently the developer doors that were fitted when new build and replacing with hardwood. One of the doors under the stair has been cut at an angle in the top corner to fit. My question is, would cutting a hardwood door in the same way be okay or would the cut damage the stability of the door and lead to it coming apart. One joiner we spoke to said we’d have to narrow the doorway to avoid the door potentially splitting but we’d really like to avoid that. Is there anything else we could do? For reference it’s a dordogne style door to be fitted, current door is 1981mm x 838mm Thanks all, based on your answers I think the safest thing to do is narrow the doorway to reduce the angle required.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As long as it is restyled it won’t split but it must be done properly on a bench not just cobbled on site

It depends how much you have to cut.

Would need to see the door and how much ,you would need to take off it . If it is like only 25 /30mm on the angle it probably be ok to cut .

There is a two options you can cut the door at an angle. Or you can put a piece of timber on the top of the door frame just like a big wedge from one side to the other then cut the bottom of the door to the size you need it will be a straight cut .
