Soil pipe into shared alley way for new bathroom
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.42 PM
We are hoping to move our bathroom to upstairs at the back of our property. We have had a plumber come to look and he’s said we need to get a builder to confirm the soil stack can be fitted and get the job done. The thing we are wondering is if we’re allowed to have a soil pipe in a shared alleyway. Although it’s shared it is our property. Does anyone have building regs advice or has done this before? Thanks!

seek the advice of your local council building department, and find a qualified plumber who knows what he is doing and can advise you properly.

Go to gov.uk website and search for 'Approved Document H'.
That tells you what the regs are for drainage.
If you are not sure after reading the relevant bit, contact a local civil engineer and email them with as much information and photos as you can with a sketch of what you are trying to do. They will normally help for free if it is simple and straightforward and charge relatively little if you have sent them enough information.
