I have just started to peel the wallpaper off and I'm now down to the bare grey plaster it is in perfect condition but can I paint directly onto it or will it need skimming? Thanks

depending on the age of the property the plasterwork may look to be a light grey but newer properties would have more of a pink appearance. once all the paper is off, you will need to scrub the walls with sugar soap, either liquid or crystalline form, available from all large DIY chains, to get rid of the left over wallpaper paste, but please make sure you use marigolds or similar as sugar soap will strip your skin of all oils and you will end up with flaking skin without gloves! following a good clean down and rinse, the walls should be perfect to accept paint, in all fairness, all new plaster should be painted first prior to papering, but too many people don't want to pay the extra, hence you have paper to plaster walls. hope this helps, if so, please check the like button. kindest regards Nick@repairs*
