Measure up for custom made internal doors

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.23 PM

I need to order a custom size pair of french doors, and 1 custom size single door. I have measured each frame for height & width in 3 places and have my largest dimension for each. My question is: Do I order my doors at these sizes for my joiner to plane to fit? (I will be posting the job on here when the doors arrive(3-4 week lead time)), or do I need to knock a few mm off each dimension for clearance? if so how much? I've tried searching online, but get conflicting advice, so thought it best to ask the professionals before I commit to order. Many Thanks

I would minus 2mm off your widest measurement, the door fitter will adjust the doors to suit, cheers Ryan

I think you should leave 2 to 3mm

As there are multiple factors affecting the size of the doors the best way is to get the person who is fitting or making the doors to do the measuring. Whether the frame is square or not is the thing that affects your measurements the most. That’s why it’s best to let an experienced carpenter or joiner do the measuring. Pick your carpenter and ask him to tell you what size door to get.
