Bathroom Fitting

Standard height of bathroom sink waste pipe connection

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.23 PM

Good morning, Is there a standard height for bathroom sink waste pipe connections? Our builder has fitted them too high at around 620 mm from floor. The top of the sink was specified at 850 mm from floor but no dimension was set for the waste pipe connection. We had a PDF drawing of the bathroom elevation and it seems the builder measured the height of what was shown on the drawing to indicate the bottle trap. Now he is asking us to pay for the work to move the waste down so the sink tables and sink can be fitted? Questions. 1. Is there a standard height for the waste pipe. Similar to the standard height of the top of sink at 850mm? 2. Is 620 mm from floor a normal height? 3. I think measurements should never be taken of a PDF. If the dimension is not specified this should be flagged and be clarified before installation. Please advise if this is acceptable practise to measure of a PDF. Thank you!

Hi There is no standard height for the waste pipe. Waste pipe height all depends on how high the sink is and where the trap needs positioning. ie. if the sink has a cupboard then the waste will be fitted in the cupboard at whatever height is best suited for the fall of the water. If the sink has no cupboard then then the waste will be fitted as close to the underneath of the sink as possible so you don’t see the waste. Sinks with pedestal, waste will be fitted behind the pedestal underneath the sink.

Hi , your so called builder would preliminary run the waste pipe and leave it to be cut down to height that’s needed. All sinks and cabinets are if different heights. So by running the 32mm or 40mm waste pipe you leave it higher and cover it so no smells are released. Then you cut it down to side and fit. If he had charged you to fit it and has presumed the heigh before fitting it’s his mistake not yours. So if you haven’t paid him then don’t until he’s fitted the basin properly. You so called builder doesn’t feel me with a lot of confidence sounds bit like a cowboy mate

it depends on the installation and the product you are installing, but why not use a qualified plumber to do your plumbing.
