Kitchen Fitting

1inch Gap between base units and plinths

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.22 PM

Hi, we have about 1inch gap across the kitchen between the plinths and base units and this gap is not consistent across all the kitchen units and the plinths are not fully secure either. From common sense this shouldn’t be like this. If there needs to be gap, then it should atleast be consistent and it shouldn’t be this big?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The gap should be around 10mm, sounds like units were positioned too high and the plinths may have needed to be scribed to the floor. If the kitchens already been fitted, worktops in etc it may be possible and cheaper to get a wider plinth. Off the top of my head Howden plinths are about 165mm and benchmarx are 140mm for example. Yes they should also be secured. Also if they flooring hasn't been fitted the gap may have been left to accommodate that.

I agree with Lar home renovations. Also, he is right. Howdens definitely do a deeper plinth.

The plinth should be left uncut until the flooring is in and then LAR home renovations is right, it should be trimmed to a consistent 10-15mm gap and then secured at every other leg with a clip of some description (these vary from kitchen to kitchen). Your best bet is new plinth and start again. Nick

Before fitting the kitchen one should check the height of the plinth, so there is room for adjustment to know how high you fit the base cabinet and allow 10mm gap.
