If you're unhappy with the work but you've paid more than half and contractor expecting to be paid?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.22 PM

I've recently had work done in my property. Everything was done from scratch as I hadn't decorated previously to work being carried out. At the start of the job I was given the price of the whole job and told to pay "small" deposit. Each week following for the remainder of the work being carried a new amount was asked for. They then packed up 2 days early not completing a full weeks work and still with loads of jobs to complete. I was then asked to pay more money, to which I then couldn't due to being asked the week before for a large amount. We are now 3 weeks passed when they originally packed up, I've since had to call round and hire others to complete jobs in which they had left. I now feel like they have since come and done the work remaining however its a rush job to complete the job and get paid. The quality of the work is as such that if I said I did it myself you would believe me. Now already having paid more than 74% I'm upset with the quality and annoyed that I had to pay outside of the job. What should I do?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello user_f5e, If they didn't complete the 100% of the work you both agreed at the beginning, then they shouldn't get the 100% of the money. Best luck. Kind Regards, Micaela & Michelangelo

Until the job is fully complete and to your satisfaction, I would advise not to pay the remaining balance

The job needs to be done to your expectation, this was discussed at the beginning of the work, if not, then they don't get paid in full until they have rectified it all..

You have an option not to pay the rest of the balance until the job is completed to your required standards and what was agreed. If you are not happy with the end result and most of the sum has been paid, you have an option to apply to go via small claim courts considering you have a contract with the company.
