Power supply from a neighbour's property to a carport in my property

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.22 PM

My property is a coach house, ie a flat above 3 open-fronted carports, two of which are allocated (by covenant) to neighbours for parking spaces. The garden of one of those neighbours adjoins the side of my property and she is requesting an electrical socket in her carport. The supply would come from her property through her garden and the brick wall of my property directly into the carport allocated to her. I myself can see problems with safety of a socket in an open-fronted carport as well as it not being my own power supply. Any thoughts?

I would check with planning and building regulations with your local council 1st before proceeding.

No problem with an outside socket if installed correctly… but, I’m pretty sure fixing and running it through to a neighbours property is a no go. I don’t quite get how she can’t get it fixed on her property. As above, I would seek some advice about this before giving permission to do it.

Needs thoroughly investigating! In a worse scenario, you may possibly be using 2 phases of a 3 phase supply. Giving rise to concern on proximity to each other and possible dangers explained and labelled if done.

Provided the socket is installed professionally, there is no safety issue. It must be water prove and swa or high tuff cable clipped properly should be okay. The issue will be the usage and mutual respect between neighbours
