How long to wait to hear from company who have been given job

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.22 PM

Having a small extension built on the back of house, had numerous quotes from different tradesmen over the past few months. Eventually decided on one, called the company around 2 weeks ago to offer them the job, was told they would be in touch in the next few days to fit us in for a proper consultation and go over everything and pay initial deposit. My husband messaged last week and received a message back saying he was in the office and would call later that day. Still not heard anything from them. First time we have ever had any major work done on the house, Is this normal? don't really want to keep chasing them and in all honesty this unreliability is already making me doubt the company.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. Unfortunately this does happen as builders are generally very busy, we are actively finding work, viewing jobs, quoting jobs, and actually on the tools doing the work, while keeping up with all the material shortages. It is a turbulent environment ATM, sometimes there are never quite enough hours in the day, However, If they cannot even phone or email you to keep you in the loop I would have a look at some alternative builders. Send an email and give them 1 week to respond after that move on. Good luck!

Make sure you found someone who can communicate with you at any time on the day. Communication is very important when you do a bigger project.

Hi it could be that the price he give you will not cover the cost of the job as all of materials is costing a lot more than when he price the job a lot of builders are not able to cover the cost of the job because of the price of materials going tough the roof he should let you know or send you a email I get a new builder if I was you as if you have a problem he will not pick up his phone hopefully you get a great builder thanks S&S.
