Use of epoxy grout

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.22 PM

Hi there I am buying a new build house and the ground floor is a concrete beam & block with wet UFH in screed. “Her indoors” has chosen a porcelain marble effect tile (Porcelanosa Carrara Blanco Brillo). The builder says he only makes 2 types of grout available to the tiler: cement type white or grey. We don't want white grout as it won’t be practical; grey grout wold spoil the effect as it would lead to a grid effect. There is an area of 100 sq metres to cover (hall, kitchen, living room utility & WC). For durability and stain resistance, I have asked if we can have Mapei epoxy (Moon White). I know this is about 3-4 times more expensive than standard grout, and more difficult to work with. Could somebody give me an idea of how many extra man-hours would be required to use epoxy grout compared to standard grout on 100 sq metres. (Tiles are about 600x600mm). Any advice/info greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't take a great deal longer, probably a few hours but as you have acknowledged it's a bit of a bugger to work with. The cleaning involved is a nightmare and the tiler will have to dispose of some things they use to clean with.

IMPO Putting materials cost aside.. the extra work involved would be 3 times as much due to the application and cleaning process required GW

I have used epoxy grout on numerous occasions and if you are not used to working with epoxy you can find your self having problems with cleaning also with that size job I would not use the builder
