Glugging noise from sink, off smell in back bedroom - tenement flat
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.38 PM
I live in a 3rd floor tenement, with separate soil and waste stacks. Our kitchen is an internal typical tiny tenement kitchen; the waste runs from the kitchen, through the wall of our back bedroom and out to the waste stack at the back of the property. First issue is that the kitchen sink makes a lovely glugging noise after use, kinda like a kid doing an impression of a fish. Now, am I right in thinking that a possible culprit here is a blockage somewhere? Or something to do with the sink not being vented properly? The second issue is that the back bedroom, where the waste pipe runs through the wall to meet the waste stack, sometimes gets a foosty smell, a little bit sewagey, farty if you get what I mean. I can't notice any distinct pattern to the smell though - it's there sometimes, but not others. Potentially linked to the glugging sink - blockage or venting? (can you tell that i heard a plumber say something about vents once upon a time and i'm clinging to it) I'll be totally honest and say I have 100% no idea how to check if it's vented, where a vent would be, what bit would be vented etc etc. Any pointers very welcome!!
