Plumbing

basement leak in the water supply pipe

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.38 PM

Hi, we live in 1964 terraced house and my neighbour's back-yard pavement is all in water that constantly comes from around the deep bottom of his back wall. This is happens for a year or so. A strong guy came, digged it all, fixed nothing and wrote a bill (as usual in the UK). Can anyone tell me, where to obtain a drawing of the incoming water pipes? Is it under the concrete floor? How to locate and replace it? The stop-cock seems to be in the front garden, but the leak is in the back-garden. I am afraid that the basement of our terrace house will be damaged due to careless neighbour.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The local water authority should have a plan of where the water mains are routed and failing that they have a device like a metal detector which can trace leaks and pipes underground It should be free if charge as it’s included in your water rates and of course they will be only to happy to stop water being wasted

The best thing to is to contact your Scottish Water Board and ask them for their advise. Tell what is happening, they then be able to advise you.

There is also another reason for the water leak being in the back of the house and that could mean that your sewage waste maybe under ground. This information can be obtained through your local water authority.
