Bricklaying & Repointing

What type of lintel should I be looking for?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

Good afternoon, hope you are all well. I'm looking to have a rusty old angle iron lintel replaced above two adjoining windows (kitchen and bathroom) the windows have no brick pillar in between. The windows just butt up against each other. The open span between the far ends of the windows is 2675mm so I'm thinking 3m length? The windows are situated on the gable end of a 1960 bungalow with their mid-point almost directly under the apex of the roof line. The bungalow is cavity wall construction. Single brick on the outside and red colour air block/brick on the inside. Could anyone suggest the current type of lintel that should be used in this situation. Many thanks in advance simon

I would need more details ie, Are you replacing the lintel in the outside skin and inside skin of bwk, the size (width of cavity) as stating an IG lintel would do is very vague as IG is a brand name for various profiles of lintel. Also is the outside wall face bwk or rendered as this would have a bearing on cost.

I'd probably go with a catnip lintel at 3m and if possible add a brick piller in between the two windows hope it helps
