Bathrooms and Kitchen paint (again).

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

Hello, Again a question about bathrooms and kitchen paints, sorry. Now more precise: Should both coats to be the same specific paint for bathroom/kitchen, or I can do first coat with a normal emulsion, and second with a specific one? Thanks a lot!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Paints all have specific formulas so it would be best practice to apply two coats of the same paint to avoid any issues down the line. However, in theory you could get away with this if the kitchen/bathroom paint went on in a very good coverage. But in order for the paint to perform at its best I would recommend 2 coats of the same paint.

Always best to do two coats of the same type, it will give a more consistent finish.

It does not matter what brand paint you use. As long as water based is over coating another water based paints. Oils to oils to oils as well.

In many cases the opacity (thickness) of a mid sheen paint is not as good as emulsion. Therefore, and especially when using white, I would normally give the ceiling/walls a solid coat of emulsion followed by a coat of mid-sheen/durable matt etc
