How do you get rid of damp soil smell

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

Hi, our lounge is in our basement and everytime it rains we get this awful damp/soil smell. Cannot see any signs of damp/mould but it's just the smell we cannot get rid of. We did have someone come in a while back who tested the basement for damp and said nothing came up but any advice would be great!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You can’t smell damp ; you can smell fungi . The source of the odour has to be a poorly ventilated area that contains blossoming fungi . This could be outside and entering through a void or window . It could be a rain water drain that is experiencing a high pressure of gas or air or a gap around pipes in the property that are activated by exterior moisture or humidity . Finding the source is a process of elimination.
