Will replacing a flat roof damage the ceiling?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

Hi, I have a flat roof that is getting close to need replacing. Will replacing the roof damage the inside ceiling? Just thinking about all the wiring that will be running through there and also the artex is pre 2000 so I’m guessing it could contain asbestos so really don’t want to disturb that. Would it be possible to leave new cables in the new roof ready for a spark to just pull though in the future when we have the kitchen rewired? Many thanks for any advice.

If you are reboarding flat roof as well as installing a new covering the internal ceiling may be disturbed, if this is not the case then the ceiling should remain in damaged. As for running cables through the ceiling void that would be the best course of action, the electrician can then connect new lighting loop once other works completed.

If you use a genuine roofing contractor they should be able to do the works with very little to no damage depending on how strong and what condition the joists are in for most jobs of this kind the worst is that you may get an airline crack in the artex but a good roofer will leave no signs from inside and the cables can definitely be run ready for future works
