cost of corrugated shed roof replacement

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.00 PM

I asked a builder to replace the roof of garden shed which had collapsed; corrugated single pitch 2mx 3m max. He overlapped 2 pieces of 'off the shelf' corrugated roofing, and drilled in a few screws (not enough as it is bulging between screws - perhaps 4 over 200 mm strip). The roofing overlaps by at least 20 cm on the one side and the overlap between sheets is minimal. He sent me a text invoice but did not call back when I tried to call to discuss the price. 3 months on he has sent me a formal builder invoice. I have told him I am unhappy but am not sure what fair price would be. I had thought £100 - £150 as I have check the price of materials and they could not have been more than £50 at a push. This is what he is charging: £410 plus VAT (£84) = £504 breakdown: labour £200, materials £135, removal of old shed roof (just the corrugated sheeting) £75 =£410 Any advice please? Thank you

hi, this is my advice. there's always two sides to a story. just taking a photo or video of the shed roof will help. in order not to get any misunderstandings involved I would at first give the client an estimate first and foremost. before any work starts.that way everyone understands the price. on letterhead paper etc. materials? there's all sorts? now imagine if i asked the roofer or builder his views? of their cost? The two stories would be different. has the person a photo of shed roof? showing before and after.? always get a estimate before any work begins....and if there any questions before work starts. then both parties can discuss. it works both ways.
