Chimney flashing

Just had rear of property re roofed. The flashing has only been butt joined up to the chimney stack from the new roof with mortar covering the join. I have been told by the roofer that i will need to get the chimney rendered to make the join watertight. The quote included "Supply and fit new soakers and flashing". Just wondering if this is correct, or should the flashing have been fixed properly into the chimney stack?

If the quote was to fit and supply soakers and flashing then the workman shouldn’t of left the job until it was water tight, unless it was clearly stated on the quote that additional work would need to be done in order for it to be water tight but I’ve never come across that before

Correct way should have been a step flashing fitted to the chimney stack and then pointed between brick joints

Hi there...if you are having the chimney rendered then you can just pin the lead flashing to wall and fix the render bead over top of lead but it he bead has to be fixed through lead into brick work....otherwise the lead will move with different weather conditions.
I personally always fix my lead into the mortar joint so it's water tight regardless of what follows.

this is wrong in everway even if you render over this lead work it will leak and cause damp, what did your local building inspector say as this should have been signed of by building control.
