Water running off side of roof

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.00 PM

Job description Edit It's a question I've got a severe problem with water running.off the side of my pitched roof and down the gable end wall before it even gets to the guttering. It's a detached new build house and seems to happen on both sides, (worse on 1 side than the other) and is making a right old mess at the bottom. Splashing water and.mud back up the wall. Is this a build problem with the roof levels (ie edge tiles not directing the water back into the roof and guttering).

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Seems to me that the verge may well have dropped, meaning water will continuously fall over the verge edge. Would recommend strip all verges back and reset with mortar. Hope this information is helpful

Hi there, The verge tiles should always be tilted up at the outer edge to guide the water to stay on the tiles until it reaches the gutter. Chances are that the gable wall was lower than the roof joists with the Weight of the roof tiles plus the cement verge or dry verge the roof battens will bend and dip, sloping the tiles to tip the water off the gable end. This can be solved with a continuous dry verge trough. Regards david

I would recommended that you have an RPG system fitted as to me it sounds like the bottom of your old bitumen felt would have rotted away causing the water to fall in to the soffit fascia area resulting in it going down the wall and not reaching the gutter

If it’s a new build then nothing should have dropped, more likely sounds like faulty workmanship. Really needs investigating with a site inspection. Hope this helps.
