Retrofit membrane lining - dusty loft

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.40 PM

Hello, My house, built in 30's, has titled roof with no breathable underlay membrane. As a result loft becomes very dusty. Loft was boarded some 15 years ago and there is no condensation issue with all rafters dry and structurally sound. Are there breathable products that I can attach to the rafters from underneath to make the loft dust free? I would prefer white instead of black or shiny foil finish. What are my options in this situation? Thank you. In reply to EPS, Thanks. I was told that standard breathable membranes are unidirectionally moisture permeable and would cause dampness? Also shall they not sag with accumulation of dust?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Any embrane will do. The membrane fitted to the underside of Rafters will perform as it would on top If the membrane is securely fitted it will withstand the small amount of Dust generated If the tiles/slatrs are taunched which has degenerated sweep them first.

Well if you clean all rafters meaning brush them all down and then fit the breathable felt to the underside this will keep costs to a minimum
