Do you require a Damp Proof Course (DPC) for external wall Silicone Render?

Do you require a Damp Proof Course (DPC) for external wall Silicone Render? The DPC was plastered over with Cement and absorbing moisture. Some have advised removing this and others say it's not necessary before silicone render. What is best please?

There needs to be a break in render above and below dpc. Back to back stop beads of different depths is ideal

The dpc is to stop ground water rising through your walls, rendering over it creates a bridge that water will use to cross the dpc. Water will still cross this cement bridge behind a silicon render top coat

You've got to take the render off below the dpc as this will cause rising damp regardless of what you put on top. So either chop it off and put a drip bead on the dpc level leaving the brickwork below clear, or if the brickwork below dpc is unsightly then cut out a few inches above and below dpc, install movement bead, rerender and then apply silicon coat
