Do you require a Damp Proof Course for Silicone Render?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.40 PM

Do you require a Damp Proof Course (DPC) for external wall Silicone Render? The DPC was rendered over with Cement and absorbing moisture. Some have advised removing this and others say it's not necessary for silicone render. What is best please?

feel for you gifty, happens to the best of us at some point. Legally- if you have supplied labour and materials (important on the materials part) if you have offered to put any work right and they haven't allowed you to do so you are entitled to the full amount, regardless (to a point) of the standard of work. a simple small claims application will resolve the issue (takes time mind). you will have to send them relevant documentation and it can be stressful but worth it in the end. you can claim £90.00 for your time in court plus 8% interest. mental health problems and us 'men' tradeies are not immune from it. if this is stressing you out mate, talk to someone! these customers don't realise the lightest thing we carry on our shoulders is a bag of multi. if you have done a labour only job, write it off. its not worth chasing as for the future, learn from this. itemize your quotes, if the loft hatch isn't off, tell them it need removing etc. i know it goes against the grain and you just want to crack on with it, but being fussy is what makes you last in the game. and always include materials in your quotation, it gives you protection. good luck !

I’m a little confused by this term ‘silicone render ‘ , there is no such thing . Covering the DPM with render can cause bridging damp if the render is not of excellent quality so in most cases, it should be removed .

Allowing any material/ structure to bridge the dpc is bad practice and needs correcting.
