Bathroom Fitting

Best Flooring for downstairs toilet

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.40 PM

Good afternoon Looking to convert our outside porch into a toilet. One of the burning questions I have is the best way to raise the floor approximately 18 cm. The porch is a single skin brick, so i'm assuming a suspended floor is a poor choice. Seems simple to have a floating floor by using DMP/ kingspan / Ply to make up the 18 cm, though I'm a little weirded out by having a toilet bolted down into a floating floor! Any suggestions? - Sadly because there's a 6" gas pipe running along one end of the room, filling it with concrete seems a bad idea. Alternatively do I just block and beam it? Much appreciated.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Obviously, it depends on the circumstances. You may consider the wood floor with vinyl or vinyl tiles or Kingspan + screed covered by vinyl, tiles, laminate floor. The toilet, if there is a proper concrete floor then you may use the wall-mounted toilet with metal brackets- floor mounted type as a solution (i.e. from www.plumbworld, etc.)

Karndean or other Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is a great option. And use silicone around the toilet to fix it to the floor. With a good seal all around, it will be fixed much firmer (all around the base) instead of just two bolts...
