How do I seal the joint on the incoming water pipe to a cistern ?
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.42 PM
Hi, I am replacing the cistern entry fill valve for my toilet with a Skylo bottom entry valve. The valve is sealing ok where the shaft goes through the hole but I keep getting a slight leak around the nut where the incoming water pipe connects to the valve. ( I have replaced the fibre washer.) Any suggestions, please ? I was wondering if I could carefully smear Fernox LSX around the inside of the nut. Would that be ok, and is it likely to work? Thanks.

Use ptfe tape if fibre washer won’t seal the joint. Then Don’t overtighten.

Loosen the nut and smear liquid ptfe tape ( via screwfix) around the washer and thread sections and tighten, ( make sure you have not threaded the nut) , that will sort it

Drain the Cistern, remove Fill Valve, put Plumbers Mate on the Flange of the Fill Valve, replace Fill Valve, and tighten the back Nut, securing this to the Cistern.
Put PTFE Tape around the thread of the Fill Valve, and reconnect Pipe work.

I would call a professional to call and fix the problem, better to be safe than sorry.
