Can the gas for a heater be used for a gas hob instead
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.42 PM
I am planning a new kitchen and I want to move all of it around. We have an old Baxi Brazilia heater which needs removing. Could we use that incoming gas supply for a gas hob/oven/cooker? It is not a huge problem because we'll go electric if not, I'd just prefer a gas hob if possible. *The gas heater is on an outside wall near where I would like the new cooker to go. There is an existing gas hob which would no longer be required as that area is where the dining table will be.

Yes of course, the Gas supplied by the meter can in principle be used for a number of appliances.
Whoever the Gas Engineer is should make sure that pipe sizing in the property is adequate to provide enough Gas to the appliance, without starving other appliances in the property of Gas and causing poor combustion.
If the supply is not sufficient, then pipes can be increased in order to supply all the appliances. This is worked out using a set of calculations for sizing of pipes.

You did not say where the wall heater was located!
Usually these appliances have an 8 or 10mm gas pipe so initially I would say no.
But you would need to have a gas engineer inspect the gas pipework.
A gas hob needs 15mm but it does not indicate you will get the correct operating pressure just because it is 15mm! so inspection is necessary.

The describtion given by Jase heating is exactly what a gas safe engineer should be looking at, so the gas working pressure is 1 mbar loss over the length of pipe run at furtherest point.
