Should I remove or repair the plaster in 1930s house?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

My 1930s hall and landing walls have lots of cracks and loose plaster. Should I remove it all back to the brick and start again with plasterboard or should I retain where poss and repair/fill in then skim? I've read on lots of forums that the old plaster is more breathable and soundproof so should keep ideally?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi as you suggested take off loose back to brickwork, fill in and skim all over.

If the plaster is too old, it can be removed from the brick and plasterboard can be placed and the new plaster can be applied, it will be much better insulated and the wall will be much straighter and much finer.

Hi some walls are in a terrible state, some are in good condition, I.e just need patching and skimming, if plaster is loose in multiple areas take the lot back to brick and board it Hope this helps
