Should I do my fencing or driveway first?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

I want to convert my front garden into a driveway using imprinted concrete and also put up new fencing on either side. Which should I do first the fencing or driveway? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I advise you to do the fencing work to set the boundary lines before the concrete.

I would recommend getting the fence done first. 1.the driveway can be layed to the boundry of the fence. 2. If you lay the drive first you could / would have to dig part of it up to accommodate the hole for the fence posts which is around 3x the post diameter. Hope this gives an idea but without seeing plans of the drive/ garden its hard to give accurate advice.

if you do the fencing after you have done the driveway the block paving edgings which are laid on sharp sand and cement could be disturbed because the edgings are normally laid as close as possible to the fence line so always do the fence first because when you base out the area with crush concrete it is retained as well by the fence.

I would recommend completing the fence work first so you have the boundaries set to work with for the drive 👍🏻

I would do the fence first to set the boundary with the line and then get the printed concrete contractor in for the driveway

Hi, Cristina, As mentioned by all above I would definitely install the fencing first. I also would recommend using concrete gravel boards if possible when installing your new fence as they work excellently at retaining any sub base used for your driveway and of course keep any timber up out of the way of any moisture drawn from the ground. I hope this helps. Stuart. (Woodland Fencing)😊

Would recommend to do the fence first as that will set the boundary line. Doing the driveway first could end up damaged when digging the holes for the fence posts.

Definitely fence first, followed by driveway, there’s no risk to damaging the driveway this way and then you’ll have a nice border to the driveway
