Integrate TV into chimney breast wall

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

Is it possible to integrate a TV into a chimney breast wall and if so what kind of tradesman would do this as I have been told joiners wont as they would only do it if I wanted a new wall created to then integrate the TV.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes. But if you have a fire or stove. You would need a mantel above fire. As heat rises would need to get around shelf . Making for a colder spot just above beam or shelve . Would need to be at least 8ich. Or 200 mm. Mark innes. Innes construction

It is possible to install a flat screen that is flush to a chimney breast, but you would need to consider how you will keep the TV cool. The chimney breast will get warm, if you are using the fire, although it’s actually the electronics in the TV that will generate most of the heat. Most TVs have air grills at the back, to let the heat they generate get out and so keep the appliance cool. If you inset the TV these grills are likely to be partially or even fully blocked - which could cause the TV to ‘run hot’ and fail prematurely. Some high-end houses, where I sweep, have had inset screens installed into a bespoke frame, that is deeper than the TV. The screen is flush with the wall and excess heat is dissipated by means of an ultra quiet fan, built into the frame.
