Blinding light from next door because of house position

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.22 PM

Hi The houses where we live are detached. However, the house next door and ours are not lined up uniformly. After we moved in, the site plans were changed, and to accommodate a detached house similar to ours on a smaller plot the builder had to position the house on the plot so that it is forward of ours at the front and behind ours at the rear. The houses have integral garages, and where all other houses in the development have the garages positioned so that the patios are far apart, in order to squeeze this house into the site, the garages are built at opposite sides of the houses, with the result that the patios are next to each other, separated only by a fence. The house in question is built so close to the boundary that the owners can barely walk around it and have to use our garden to work at their roof etc. My biggest issue is that they have a powerful light over their patio door which we find blinding as the back of their house is behind ours. Is there anything we can do? Was it even legal to position the house in this way. Any suggestions or information would be much appreciated. Thank you

You could try talking to them? - explain that it is a bit too bright, then try and reach a compromise.
