Best insulation for a Single Skin Brick Porch

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.22 PM

Hello kind folk, Been researching as best as I can regarding the best way to insulate an outside porch that's a whopping 6x6 foot. After my research i've been led to believe that Bat/Board seems the most popular option, though i've been left with a few questions. a) Do you use a membrane slither between the batten and the brick - i've seen some say it's important but others not. Would the alternative to be to treat the brickwork first with something to achieve the same effect? b) The advice to infill with Kingspan seems sensible but I've seen conflicting advice on whether you should also have a 25mm air gap (in front or behind) the Kingspan sheets. Some say to use a 25mm sheet within a 25mm gap. Others that you should use a 25mm within a 50mm gap with fixings behind to hold in place. c) Is there a preference to have a vapour barrier attached to the plasterboard or is it just as good to have PB that includes a barrier. d) Lastly there will be a few protruding columns of brickwork around the door to the porch that leads to the outside. Little concerned that if i'm going to be Insulating everything else that these will be cold spots and render a lot of the effort pointless? (effectively it's a sideways brick running along the side of the door. The rest of the walls being inly a single brick in thickness. Is this a problem? - Perhaps something a Wet screed could fix?

After reading every possible option available to you Bearing in mind it’s a porch I would use 25 mm King span straight onto the wall and then batten tantalised batons at 400 centres once the entire internal has been king spanned and counter batons then screw your 12.5 mm plasterboard to the battens. this gives you the thermal insulation of a four-inch block it also gives you a 25 mil airflow between the King span on the back of a plasterboard job done
