Perimeter rendered wall - no DPC with yearly maintenance - can I add a DPC?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.21 PM
I have a single breeze block wall on the perimeter of my property that is rendered. I'm told there is no DPC (all the houses in the road have the same type of wall) so this means the render needs painting regularly as it goes patchy with mould and chunks fall off from time to time. Can I add a DPC to fix this?

Good afternoon . You can apply a DPC without removing any blocks/ bricks . Take a look at DPC drilling this requires a chemical pumped in and eventually forms a barrier with the morter so the water can no longer travel up block work. Regards.

Without knowing the age of the building it’s not easy to recommend a solution, but one thing I can promise you, No a chemical DPC will do nothing for this problem. The issues you are describing are down to moisture been trapped within the wall caused by sand and cement render. The render needs removing and replaced with a breathable render.

It is well documented that chemical injection of the mortar course of cement block walls does not work due to the properties of the block work.
