Hip to gable roof change

I need to change the shape of the roof, not to convert to a room I want to leave the loft as is, just for storage. The roof shape needs to change. Do i need the same structural work as for a loft conversion, with steels etc?

The loads will be different to design so you would be better to get calculations done for what you think you may be storing up there. Talk to local councils Building control department for full answer and to see if you require planning permission before you start anything.
