Repair surrounding brickwork of window
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.38 PM
So the brickwork around my kitchen windows has degraded quite badly over the years, it's a 100 year old tenement flat with sandstone exterior. Now there are some nasty gaps around the sides of the windows which is letting water damage in around the edges. To repair this properly a stonemason quoted me about 5k to repoint the exterior because I'm on the 3rd floor so scaffolding is needed and I'd rather avoid the cost at the moment. Are there any alternative solutions? What do window fitters do when they go out on a job and find the the foundations are not there to fit a new window properly? I'm considering new windows at the moment but assume I would need to repair the brickwork first... so the overall cost would end up at about 7k which is pretty depressing. I did think about stripping back the plasterboard around the inside and patching the gaps internally but I'm not sure what kind of tradesman would do that. Any thoughts?
