PVC skirting board
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.38 PM
I asked a laminate floor fitter if I could do away with the beading and apply a pvc skirting board over the existing wooden skirting board so it sits neatly on top of laminate and he said he doesn’t have a clue what I am talking about. Can anyone help. Either I’m daft or he is, but I think he is.

I haven’t used it myself personal but I would assume so as long as the expansion gap is smaller then what the overlapping pvc skirt will be, he may not want to say or get involved with something he has never used, if your not sure on something as a contractor and you say yes then you could be liable, so if he says he doesn’t know it could simply mean he’s not getting involved.

I won't assume to judge on his daftness, but, yes, you can get uPVC skirting that fits over existing skirting. It can be glued or pinned in place. Just be careful when ordering it that it is one designed to go over existing skirting as many of them are designed as straightforward replacements for wooden skirting. Good luck.

Yes of course you can. Having the wooden skirtings behind it it will help to have a solid surface for fixing the PVC skirting to them.
For aesthetic purposes proportions of both skirting boards ( especially height) will need to be taking into consideration.

If he’s left a 10 mm gap all round as per, pvc board won’t be thick enough to cover it
