Fling in air vent half covered by soundproofed wall

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.38 PM

Hello We recently had our bedroom wall soundproofed due to noisy neighbour issues. A small stud wall was fitted with rockwool in and acoustic panels over the front. There's an air vent in the wall next to the one that was soundproofed, that we were told wouldn't be a problem and could be sorted out. Instead they just half covered it over, so half the vent is now within the stud wall, and it is letting some sound through. From the outside I can see that the airbrick was covered over anyway by the roof fascia board (a new roof was fitted before we bought the house) so it isn't ventilating the room anyway, there's no boiler or fireplace in the room, and we were going to replace the window with one with trickle vents. Any advice on how we can fill in the part of the air vent still visible in the bedroom from the inside would really be appreciated! It's the sound we need to block as well as we can really. Thanks a lot

The air vents are there for a reason as without these you could get damp patches in the room even though you are having a new window installed. I would get the builders back to sort out this mess. Apart from that without seeing the job it’s hard to see what can be done. You may need another builder to just pop in to give you some advice.
