Re-skimming over lime plaster walls?

Hi, we've just taken off the wallpaper and lining paper from a bedroom in our 1920s house and found that the original plaster is actually in good conditions. Just a line crack on one wall, a few small holes where nails were put in, but nothing is falling off, and there aren’t any chunks missing. Also, the room has concrete skirting and a ceiling coving made off plaster that I want to remove. The property was maintained in a really good condition, but we are looking for a modern look with smooth finish. What should I do? Should I replaster just the top and bottom and sand the rest of the walls down and fix the holes and after that re-skim? Thanks for any help!
