Builders won't come back until i pay last instalment

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.59 PM

I got a builder in Northern Ireland to price for an extension and paid the 4 instalmens. 1 being a deposit 2. Being when foundations went in 3. Being up to roof level and 4 being when roof when on and last payment was yo be made when all was finished. The building was to be finished in April 2020 but then covid hit and its still not finished 1 year later as he is looking for the last payment to be made and I've been informed not to pay until its all finished so now he won't come back to finish and he won't give me an invoice but I have all transfers made to him and all emails etc. Do I pay him or get someone else into finish it and claim the difference back from him through the court. Thanks

You need to seek proper legal advice nobody on here can advise you on legal matters, especially with such a brief description there must be more to this to why he needs payment now and why you don’t want to pay anymore, maybe try mediation service first? Regards Frankie BT Roofing Services Limited

If you and your builder cannot come to some agreement you need to enlist the services of a third party who will be unbiased there are companies who specialise In this service

Hi often times when relations come to an end best to get legal advice , to be honest it’s never the same again It’s allways good to talk and try to resolve the matter . Courts should be the last resort, because all it dose it gives you a head ache , sleepless night just one be mess. Might be good just to call it a day.

The best I can advise is to contact with builder in writing to resolve the issue before you involve any legal firm because it would again take some time. If builder agrees to finish your work according to your convenience and perception then its good for both. Again negotiating with current builder would be less headach in my openion.
