Fitting downpipe

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.59 PM

Hi All. I’ve been replacing my gutters & downpipe today & thought it was all done but had an issue when it came to clipping the downpipe in. There’s no soffits but the fascia is a few cm deep (in some places & almost flush with the render elsewhere) so it means the clips are pulling the pipe into the wall too much vs where the outlet wants to sit. As it’s only a few cm it doesn’t seem necessary to put some on angled joins on (or possible even) so I’m not sure what the solution is. Should I pack out the clips so they’re off the wall a bit maybe? Or is it fine to leave as is & let the pipe flex a bit? Thank you both. I moved the outlet a long a bit so it’s not directly over the downpipe and put two offset bends on and problem solved. Really easy actually, I just couldn’t get my head round it at the time!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Depending on what kind of gutter you have ie square or round. If you have round I would move outlet to either side (right or left) to allow off set bends to sit closer to wall so down pipe brackets sit nicely on the wall and not stressing down pipe.

The fact your fascia is almost in line with the render is quite worrying, I suggest you hire a professional as this is relatively easy for any tradesman to solve.

Not a good idea, much better to have have used solid board, instead of cap over because you need a drip to stop the water running in, should have pack’t the rafters out to take the solid board, then fit an eave guard, that would have been a better job, your roofer should have pointed that out to you .
