Buying a mid-terrace Victorian property -may or may not have sarking - unsure how to proceed

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.59 PM

We are buying an 1880’s mid terrace with attic conversion already complete. The surveyor is unable to confirm presence of sarking and no documentation from vendor to confirm presence. What should we do? How could we have it checked and/or should we re-negotiate?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The only thing you can do is to stripe part of the roof and check the roofline or you could ask the neighbours if there roof has sparking on there's, but striping is the only answer. Many thanks Mr Paul emeney Peconstruction. Co. Uk

You would need to have the roof manually checked. Depending on what material is used on the roof, a tile could be removed to see if there is any sarking/breathable felt underneath. I hope this helps, Jamie, Knot Just Wood

If its the original roof it won't have sarking. Normally you check this by looking the loft space, but if this is not possible then a few tiles need to be removed to check. Phill Trusted Roofing
