Where are the valves to repressurise this boiler?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.59 PM

Normally, there are a row of valves along the back wall (which tend to be open, and which I don't touch), and two extra valves towards the front of the boiler, which are closed. I normally use these to repressurise a boiler. But it seems on my Potterton Gold HE, there are no valves - just two black caps screwed onto the pipes. YouTube Tutorials show that my model should have valves, but it doesn't. Anybody know where the right place is to repressurise this boiler? Edit to add link: https://imgur.com/a/ye8K5ey

Without seeing your boiler and its components, you will need to connect a temporary filling loop between the mains cold water inlet and central heating return isolation taps and then re-pressurize that way. You should be able to remove the black caps when system is drained. Consulting the boilers manufactures instructions always helps as well. To note you would need a plumber to do this unless you feel confident enough to do it yourself.

Most likely that you need a filling loop which is normally left with the boiler but should be removed when not in use, this will connect the cold feed to the return and have a check valve built in .

I wouldnt advise customer to tamper with the boiler, as over pressurizing can do more damage ,if the boiler is losing pressure then this can be caused by many things and needs investigating ,and stay away from u-tube videos .ive seen many boilers wrecked by forcing too much pressure into them!

On the picture you have the pipes with two black circular taps. This is how you top the pressure up. They do take a bit of turning for the water to start flowing and topping it up. These are a home owners controls but be aware you can over pressurise it and cause other issues. If unsure contact a gas safe engineer who will be able to help.
