Washing Machine near Unvented Water Cylinder

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.40 PM

Hi, I have just brought my first property (top floor flat) and I would like to move the washing machine into the store room where I have my unvented hot water cylinder. I have had one person look at what is needed and he has said that he will do the work but he will have to move the unvented water cylinder off the floor due to the vibration from the washing machine as this could cause an issue such as the cylinder exploding - is this correct?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I have my unvented cylinder certification and have never heard of this, if in doubt ring the cylinder manufacturer and ask them. I doubt this is correct as in the new build flats we fit out we also fit washing machines next to cylinders, only someone with unvented certification is allowed to move this type of cylinder.

no, a, your washing if fitted and levelled properly will not produce a dangerous amount of vibration, b, your unvented cylinder if fitted to the regulations has safety devices incorporated in it to stop it exploding, and c, if he is not g3 registered he should not work on it at all

Dont have the guy back in your property again. He's trying to scam you out of money Giving all plumbing & heating engineers a bad name. Washing machine only needs a cold supply & waste, Very little vibration. He can't touch the unvented cylinder anyway without having done a course.

I don’t see how vibration can cause an explosion. It’s possible for these to explode but very hard to because of the safety devices fitted to them. Did you ask his theory behind this? From my opinion it should be fine but as stated always go off manufacturers instructions give them a ring or look in the book.
