Neighbours extractor smells seeping into the house

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.40 PM

Hi Hopefully someone is able to help me. I’ve just moved into an older property that has been converted. I’ve noticed that whenever my neighbours cook anything, the smells literally seeps into the entire back side of our house. I *think* I’ve pinpointed the issue and the smell is coming from the external extractor fan pumping the smell outwards, but the smell is getting into our house, somehow? The houses are connected, but at a right angle. So the smell out of the extractor fan pumps outwards, but drifts up and gets confined into a corner and gets into our house. I’m going to look to see if there are any holes in the walls where the smell could be coming through and try to fill them + the window has a few cracks around the edge so that needs sorting. The neighbour is really nice, but before I approach him, I’d like to offer a possible solution to maybe add like an extension to the external extractor to push the smells upwards? Is that possible? Thanks for your help in advance

If your referring to your neighbours kitchen hood extractor. Their carbon filter probably needs replacement. These are typically around £20.00 and should be replaced every six to twelve months which people rarely do. These filters capture a great deal of particulates when functioning. I hope this helps
