Putting integrated washing machine in to space where freestanding washing machine used to go

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

Hello, I just moved in to a house and the kitchen has a gap in the cabinets where the previous owners used to have their freestanding washing machine. How can I turn this into an integrated washing machine space? Assume a door and plinth is needed but am I missing something? Finding a matching door is going to be tricky has anyone ever done this?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As long as the space is 600mm all you would need is the built in appliance and the door/handle and plinth (kickboard) The appliance will come with a fixing kit for the door with instructions. The difficult part is finding the door to match as it’s not likely to say where it’s from but should be able to find something close if not an exact match. Hope this helps. I would concur with the answer that Chris has given from Bonnie kitchens & Interiors which was excellent. The only thing that I would add is that the 'makers mark' is often found on the hinges. So for example with "Magnet kitchens" these are usually a clip in plate on the hinge. Then it is down to the date of the kitchen - this can be worked out by a label somewhere or in the records of the previous owner. If its more than 20 years old then finding a matching kitchen door will be from reclaim or gumtree. If it is a spray finish, this can be colour matched and replicated. Then it's down to the handle or profile matching.

Although the space left may be around 600, I doubt it will be that exactly, therefore you may have bigger gaps on sides of door compared to rest of kitchen. The other problem you may have is the pipework behind washing machine, an integrated unit may not fit in far enough to finish flush with doors
