Money taken, tradesman disappeared
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.41 PM
Hi, I recently hired somebody that had previously done great work in my garden. The job was to remove turf in the front garden and lay slabs. After removing the turf he asked for money for slabs. He didn't come back, he's not answering the phone. Once you deduct the money for removing the turf he owes me £300. What can I do? Can the police do anything?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You could let the police know, but it is more likely the only way to resolve this is through the 'small claims court' , fill in the form and you can add the costs to the money owed . Go on to gov.uk and seek the advice on there.

Hi the saw unfortunately you will find the police may tell you it is a civil matter between you and the Tradesmen so my advice would be to track him down through the small clams courts clams He will more and lightly respond to this as if not they will place a CCJ against him and it will go on his credit record

Hi,
A very unfortunate circumstance.
I can't see the police doing much its more a 'small claims' matter.
However if you have a paper trial I.e a quote form, Payments by bank transfer, receipts anything with adress and details on. This would help considerably. Hope you get this sorted.
