Damp Proofing

Can we drill a damp proofed wall?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

We have recently had our kitchen damp proofed and plastered and at some point we will be reinstalling the radiator in there. Are we OK to be drilling into the wall that has had the damp proofing to reattach the radiator bracket? Or is there anything else we need to do additionally?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you drill into a damp proof system You are going to compromise it However if you use non ferris fixings Ie stainless or plastic and bed the raw plugs in silicone to seal the holes it should be fine

Ok unless the wall has been tanked using a membrane do not drill this as this may invalidate your warranty

There is no problem at all with drilling into a newly damp proofed wall, I just say to customers put a squeeze of silicone into the drilled holes prior to putting raw plugs in. This will seal the hole and stop any damp bleeding through the holes.
