Banging noise from internal main water pipe

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

Hi, I live in a flat ( first floor up) and there’s a consistent - every 10-15 seconds or so - loud bang from the internal main water pipe. If I turn this off the bang stops in my house but I can still hear it slightly in the downstairs flat. I should say that it isn’t all the time, and it doesn’t happen when I do something with a tap or washing machine etc. Any idea what this is?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
