Bricklaying & Repointing

Sandy mortar on exterior house wall

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

My house is 20 years old and the brick mortar seems to have sand deposits being blown away with the weather. My car is parked at the side of the house and is getting covered in sand particles. Can the wall be sealed with weatherproofer to correct this. If so, what would you recommend ?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

What I would recommend is making a 4 too 1 mix of sand and cement, wetting down the bricks that are going to be reprinted and repoint the wall and that will make the exterior look a lot newer and will have a very long lasting effect !

Rake out the mortar joints dampen the the brickwork and repoint is absolutely correct BUT never put water proofer on a house wall it sounds like a good solution water proofing a house will only encourage condensation inside causing damp to appear hope this helps as it only 20 years old sand and cement will be ok
