Doors will no longer close after plastering job

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

I've had 2 bedrooms skimmed and since they were done the bedroom doors will no longer close, as if the door is too wide for the frame. I thought it may be the moisture from the plaster but now 1 room is completely dry and painted and it's no better. Now the 2nd bedroom has been done and the door also stopped fitting the frame after a few days. Why could this be? And what can I do about it please?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Maybe there’s plaster that has dropped into the hinges? Plastering walls alone shouldn’t of affected how the doors close.

Sounds like they did swell with the raised humidity when the plaster was drying especially if they are lightweight doors. Only option is to plane them

It's definitely moisture ingress, in both the casing and door. The casing legs will be slightly cupped after the wet plaster has dried in to the back unpainted edge of door casing. More heat and possibly a dehumidifier. If you plane the doors down, it is purely a last resort and only a temporary measure as the doors and casing will shrink back eventually and the 3mm you took off 6 months ago is now nearer 6mm and your doors don't latch. Try sanding a leading off all clashing points and wait.

Defiantly the moisture off the plaster I would leave them a little longer and then take as little as possible off them as they probably will go back to the size they were.

Always take doors off and lay flat , never hang back until moisture content goes down, once planed Prime the 4 sides.
