Floor tiling cost
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.40 PM
Hi, Does it cost more to tile a floor herringbone style than traditional tiling. The tiles in question are wood effect tiles so look like laminate/wooden flooring style. Thanks

Yes herringbone on any tile would cost in excess of fifty percent more to lay than normal
This is because the job would take longer marking out each individual tile as opposed to marking one cut and cutting lots at a time .

Hi yes if you go for more intricate designs such as herringbone than a traditional pattern the herringbone design can incur extra time and extra due care and attention and fitters and professional tile installers do charge a higher rate per square metre for that design, Also when you come to the edge of the rooms there are more awkward cuts to place against the edge of the rooms so yes it cost more for herringbone

Yes, you can expect to pay double the price for labour. The job takes longer to set out and longer to do, therefore a standard per metre rate wouldn’t really cover the time required to do it properly. It’s also more wasteful in terms of the offcuts generated so you should factor in a bit more than normal for tile wasteage as well.

Herringbone tiling will cost more than a conventional layout whether on walls or floors , the reason for this is the measuring and layout takes longer , there is more cutting involved which can sometimes be quite intricate.
