Summer house repair/ rebuild

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

We've just bought a house with a summer house in the garden. It has electricity, lights, pitched roof, windows etc and is approx 2.5m by 2.5m. When we bought the house, the building surveyor noted that the summer house was in a bad state and at the end of its lifespan. It's slightly wonky, so the doors no longer close as they're not level with the summer house, and when you walk in it, you can feel the floor slopes. Is there a way to 'repair' it in a way that's cheaper than ripping it out and building a new one, as from researching online, building one like that from scratch would be expensive I appreciate summer houses are temporary structures with limited life spans, but we're just trying to scope out our options. Thanks!

put on concrete or level slab base . Maybe with damproof membrans seperation where support timbers contanct ground. Most distortnion likely to be corrected then.

To answer this question we need closer look on the structure. The most important is the safety aspect checking the electrical insulation. We can offer site visit, then we can answer the question more correctly or you can provide us with more pictures but the best way is for us to come and see it.

Anything can be repaired but without seeing it, I can only guess at the problems. Its usually the base supports have rotted the ground below has sunk or the frame structure needs fixing or straightening. I have fixed many summer houses and sheds far cheaper than buying new ones. My advice is get a few quotes first.

It’s amazing what a good all round joiner can achieve. Take some photos and put out a lead on my builder explaining exactly what you think is required and hopefully you will get a response even if it’s a thousand pounds repair it beats buying new.
